In 1951,
Ray and George Erickson, two brothers from Maplewood, NJ, decided
to create their own line of packaged candy to compete against large
distributing firms who could not provide adequate service to New Jersey's
small grocery stores. The brothers came up with the name "Rayge Candies"
as a union of both their first names. After spending the first year working
out of their home, they came down to the Jersey shore to a small
storefront in Bay Head. In 1955 the company moved to its present location
in the Herbertsville section of Brick.
One of the keys to the success of Rayge's operation is it's ability to meet the needs of a constantly changing market, and to adapt and come up with new ideas and solutions to changing trends. Today, Rayge focuses on nuts, seeds, dried fruits and trail mixes in addition to classic candy favorites. In a time of massive conglomerate corporations, Rayge Candy has continued to thrive as a small, family operation. Today the company is represented in stores in New Jersey, New York & Eastern Pennsylvania. George's sons, George Jr. & Tom, and grandson George III, lead the company today and are proud to continue the tradition of delivering the highest quality products to consumers and the best possible service to retailers 70 years after the company's founding.
